Bristol City Panthers PRIDE TOURNAMENT
L - R: Vicky, Ethan, Andy, Shereen, Roman, Gaz, Josh, and Dre - our Proud Baggies for Saturday’s tournament.
Proud Baggies FC took a small squad (pictured above) south-west down the M5 today to take part in the second-ever Bristol City Panthers Pride Tournament, supported by the Bristol City Robins Foundation and hosted at the Imperial Sports Ground in Brislington, Bristol.
The event was 5-a-side, with six teams either side of the group stage. Due to our geographical proximity, PBFC and Birmingham Blaze were kept in separate pools in the group stage - as were the two Panthers teams and the two Cardiff teams.
It was a difficult day, with the team failing to repeat the success of the GFSN’s Leicester tournament and bowing out in the group stages, but goals from manager Shereen Johal, as well as the first-ever open play goals from Dre Dennis and our Player of the Tournament, Josh Male, eased the pain somewhat.
Speaking about the experience, Shereen said: “We’re pleased that we could take part in today’s tournament, and thank Bristol City Panthers for the invitation. It’s always great to be involved in these events, especially representing West Bromwich Albion, and we hope to be back next year.
“It was a tough day, and the results weren’t what we wanted, but I’m chuffed for Josh and Dre getting their first goals in open play. I’m also very proud of the players for their resilience. It was difficult against some good, established sides, and it’s never nice to lose, but players rallied together and we made the best of it.”
