Onwards and Upwards

Vicky Haddock has been a Proud Baggies member since ????, and an Albion supporter since ????. We recently reported that she took part in The Albion Foundation’s fundraising hike up Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon) with staff and fans from across the breadth of the club.

We caught up with Vicky a few weeks after the event to find out more about the adventure and her own love for hiking.

How was your day’s hiking up and down Yr Wyddfa?

The hike up and down Yr Wyddfa was absolutely amazing; such a joyful, uplifting experience from start to finish! The weather was surprisingly on our side and the whole day had this brilliant energy about it. We had such a fantastic group, everyone cheering each other on, all in high spirits, and all for a great cause. The views were stunning all the way, but coming down they were even better as the skies cleared even more. We even treated ourselves to a cheeky Calippo halfway down, it was total bliss, and of course, we wrapped things up with the most well deserved cold pint at the pub. Just a perfect day all round!

Have you ever done the Snowdon ascent before?

Yes – I last did it in October 2017. I didn’t realise it at the time, but when I reached the summit I found out it had been hit by Hurricane Ophelia. It’s safe to say the weather was a lot nicer this time around!

How was your fundraising campaign?

The support has been brilliant. Friends, family, and colleagues were so generous, and it was great to see people rally behind such a good cause.

Did any friends go up with you?

Yes – I knew a few people on the hike from working with members of The Albion Foundation through my Her Game Too and Proud Baggies volunteering. That included Her Game Too WBA Advocate Siobhan and fellow WBA fans Jenny, Dean, and Dave. It was also lovely to meet new individuals, some who work for TAF and others who are WBA fans. Everyone was so lovely and supportive.

What’s your next challenge with The Albion Foundation?

I’m really looking forward to seeing what’s next on the horizon with TAF and getting involved wherever I can.

What about past fundraising/charity work?

Whilst the work I do with WBA and TAF is completely voluntary, I try to support both with my time and charity efforts as much as possible. In the past, through my old organisation, I took part in various charity events multiple times a year, and I hope to get involved with more for TAF (work permitting).

Why did you feel it was important to help TAF this time round?

For me, it was both the cause and the timing. The Albion Foundation does amazing work in the community, and this hike was a great way to combine supporting them with a personal challenge. It was also a great event to help kickstart my fitness journey.

Will you do more with TAF in future?

Yes, definitely. This experience has motivated me to stay involved and see what other opportunities come up.

If TAF did another hike, where would you like to go?

The world is our oyster! There’s already talk of the 3 Peaks and even Mount Kilimanjaro. I can’t wait to hear more about the next challenges they’re setting up as soon as details are confirmed.
