More silverware for PBFC

Proud Baggies FC were back in action on Saturday, taking part in the Nottingham Lions Football v Homophobia 2026 Tournament, and the group brought home medals for the second year on the bounce!

Two teams - Haas and Cox - represented the supporter’s group in Nottingham, and contested an initial four matches before being allocated into cup groups for a final showdown of games.

Team Cox, captained by Shereen Johal, entered into the Plate event, whilst Team Haas, captained by Tom Hogan, entered into the Bowl event. Solid performances for Team Cox saw them finish a close second place in their cup, but it was Team Haas who won a clutch penalty shootout to win the Bowl and bring home another award and medals for Proud Baggies FC.

Speaking after the event, Captain Tom said: “I want to thank everyone involved - it was a really enjoyable day. Let’s take the positives into next week’s match”

PB chair Piero Zizzi added: “Big props to Tom and Shereen for their leadership. They lead by example on and off the pitch and created a positive atmosphere where everyone felt part of the team!

“Beyond that, I’m so proud of everyone involved. It’s our third year attending this tournament and we’ve gone from strength to strength - a testament to the efforts we’re making at Proud Baggies FC”.

The team don’t have long to rest as they are in action again next Saturday afternoon for our second GFSN Development League match, hosted by the Village Manchester fifth team at Manchester Academy High School in Moss Side.

Both sides won their initial league games against Leicester Wildecats, but a 2-1 win for PBFC was outshone by a stonking 7-1 victory for VM5. This upcoming match is the final game before the league splits into three mini group cup competitions.

The winner of Saturday’s match will enter Pot 1. Solent Pride and Canal Street currently sit first and second, but if VM5 win by a two-goal cushion or more they would secure top spot and a bye into the final of their pot. For Proud Baggies, victory likely ensures a tie against Canal Street, with Solent Pride sitting on a strong +8 goal difference compared to our +1.

Defeat for PBFC, as sad as that is, would mean placing in Pot 2 and playing a local derby against Birmingham Blaze for the chance to face Eastend in the final, so even if we lose there’s a silver lining of more fun ahead of us.
